The plot is based on Dmitry Fost’s publication. May 1945, the Baltic coast. Germany has already capitulated and hundreds of thousands of Germans are surrendering. A small Soviet scout unit is left to watch the retreating Germans. The unit is located in a small building for the girls’ orphanage. Not far from them there is a group of Wehrmacht soldiers waiting for a ship to be taken to Denmark (as they do not wish to be captured by the Soviet). The Soviet scouts do not interfere, as the forces are not equal anyway.
All of a sudden on May 8 a mayor, a commander of the unit where the scout group belongs to, pays a visit. Being drunk on occasion of the Victory day, the mayor makes an attempt to rape a German girl. The scouts stop him. Afraid of the tribunal, the mayor orders to eliminate everyone in the orphanage claiming that the Vlasov people are hiding in the building. The Wehrmacht soldiers help the Soviet scouts.
